Announcing the Healthy Gamer Foundation

During the worst 12 months of mental health on record, millions of people found a way forward with Healthy Gamer, a mission-driven mental health startup that serves the gaming community. The startup established in 2019 by Dr. Alok Kanojia and cofounder Kruti Kanojia focuses on creating subclinical mental health solutions through content, coaching, and community.

“We started this company to deliver services that fill the gaps in the system. Now, it’s time to address the system itself.” says cofounder & President Alok Kanojia. He is acting President of the Healthy Gamer Foundation.

After an unexpected fundraiser of $125K in May of 2020, Healthy Gamer grew to a company of over 70 people and has invested over $1M in creating resources for the gaming community. Known for AOE Healing, Healthy Gamer’s key focus area was building out a scientifically-validated coaching service that could drive substantial mental health outcomes. The results* of the Healthy Gamer Coaching program are:

  • 45% reduction in anxiety
  • 47% reduction in depression
  • 32% increase in sense of purpose
  • 20% reduction in problematic gaming

*using internal data across 1,403 clients over 8 weeks via validated instruments such as PROMIS.

“Mental health is fundamentally a labor problem. Mental health needs are at an all-time high, and 60% of psychiatrists are eligible to retire in the next 10 years. We need fresh ideas, solutions, and people taking on modern mental health.” says cofounder & CEO Kruti Kanojia. She will be the acting Executive Director of the Healthy Gamer Foundation.

In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month (May 2021), Healthy Gamer is delighted to announce The Healthy Gamer Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to changing the meta of mental health. The Healthy Gamer Foundation will fund and conduct research that can impact mental health policy on local, state, national, and international levels. In addition, the nonprofit will administer Second Chance Grants, small personal grants of up to $2,500, with the intention of helping young people get on track to living happier, healthier lives. The Healthy Gamer Foundation is an effort to continue AOE Healing with non-revenue-generating activities aimed at creating effective solutions for today’s most pressing mental health challenges.

To kickstart the nonprofit, The Healthy Gamer Foundation is partnering with LivestreamFail, a subreddit about streaming, who wants to give back this May with their first charity fundraiser. All proceeds from the fundraiser will seed the Healthy Gamer Foundation.
